Svend Andersen was born in Denmark
in 1942. After he finished the Danish Watchmaker School, he went to
Switzerland to see how the world’s best watches were made. In 1969
Patek Philippe got interested in Andersen’s creations and let him
join the “Atelier de Complications”.
After nine years at Patek Philippe’s, Andersen started his own workshop
together with William Perret. When Perret left Frank Muller joined
the Atelier of Svend Andersen. In the same period, collectors from
all over the world asked him to manufacture special wristwatches according
to their imagination, often with unusual complications mostly as unique
creations. |

In 1998 he saw the emergence
of an old idea of Breguet, “La Montre à tact”, the tactful watch and
developed his interpretation.
His perpetual secular calendar shows our so-called Gregorian Calendar,
which was introduced in 1582 by Pope Gregory XIII. It provides three
days to be left out within four centuries. Thus the secular years
which cannot be divided into 400 do not have the 29th of February.
Therefore 1700, 1800, 1900, 2100, 2200, 2300 are not leap-years. Wristwatches
with perpetual calendar have to be regulated manually, however, this
does not apply to the “Andersen Perpetual Secular Calender”, as it
is a real perpetual calendar. |
